U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) said he believes that special counsel Robert Mueller will probably indict Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner and then the president will pardon both.
The Memphis representative made the remark on CNN in response to Rudy Giuliani saying he is not sure so-called “collusion” with Russia is a crime. Cohen said it is “entirely possible” both men would be indicted and President Trump would “go totally off his rocker … not that he’s on it now” and issue pardons.
When Wolf Blitzer asked what charges would be brought, Cohen said he thought Trump Jr. and Kushner were in contact with the Russians to affect the elections. Blitzer asked if he had evidence for the “very serious charge,” and Cohen said he thought he was right and time would tell.
The congressman, who is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, is making increasingly more unhinged remarks against conservatives.
Calls men ‘pathological liars’
Cohen appeared on MSNBC’s “Live With Alex Witt” Sunday to discuss the latest developments with former Trump attorney Michael Cohen (no relation) and Mueller’s ‘Trump-Russia Collusion’ investigation, as The Tennessee Star reported.
The congressman has a well-established record of vitriolic statements aimed at conservatives and Republicans, but Cohen managed to “find a new gear” when Trump won the election in 2016.
Regarding new questions about Michael Cohen’s credibility, Alex Witt asked if the fact that Cohen has been exposed as “wiretapping” his clients impairs his believability on the stand, “Or do you believe it is the President who loses in the credibility department?”
Cohen answered, “I think that Michael Cohen, Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump have about the same amount of credibility. They all use, at best, situational ethics – but probably more likely they just lie constantly, and they’re all three pathological liars.” (emphasis added).
Purple Heart flap
Then there was the congressman’s now-infamous remark to disgraced FBI agent Peter Strozk about how Strozk deserved a Purple Heart. Cohen tried to take it back after he drew flack.
Charles Hurt of The Washington Times had this to say:
In the throes of a partisan temper tantrum last week, Steve Cohen casually denigrated all of our bravest warriors who have been sent into wars by politicians in Washington and gotten wounded. Or killed.
Peering from his lofty perch in a congressional hearing room, the disheveled pol told disgraced FBI tool Peter Strzok: “If I could give you a Purple Heart, I would.”
That would be the Purple Heart that is awarded to American troops wounded or killed in battle. It is among the highest honors, awarded for selfless acts of daring heroism beyond the call of duty.
What, precisely, was it, Congressman Pig-Pen, that Mr. Strzok did to deserve this extraordinary honor?
Was it cheating on his wife? Semper Fi, baby!
Was it using his government issued phone to send 50,000 viciously anti-Trump and anti-American text messages to his lover, who also worked for the FBI? Yeah, hot topic in any foxhole is how bad the country-hick Trump voters at Walmart smell.
Re-election likely
Nonetheless, he’s likely to win re-election for his seventh consecutive term, the Commercial-Appeal said.
That is because he has good name recognition from being a decades-long professional politician and has more than $1 million of campaign cash, far more than his rivals. District 9 was redistricted recently to trend more Democratic.
He is opposed in the primary by Democrats Isaac Richmond and Kasandra L. Smith, both of whom he has defeated in the past.
Richmond has been running for various offices for decades and received few votes. In 2014, he received less than 1 percent of the vote against Cohen in the primary.
Cohen will face Republican Charlotte Bergmann in the Nov. 6 general election, whom he has defeated before.
